Does Blood Pressure Effect Glaucoma?

If you have glaucoma, do you have to worry about high blood pressure?  Glaucoma and high blood pressure can be a concern, especially to seniors.  It is often thought that glaucoma and high blood pressure are related.

A variety of risk factors are linked to glaucoma.  Aging, vascular issues, and a family history of glaucoma are risk factors.  Studies have also pointed to the link between low blood pressure and glaucoma.  If the blood pressure is low, the body is unable to supply sufficient blood to the eye to keep it healthy.

It is always important to monitor blood pressure.  Glaucoma patients should consult their doctors and schedule regular appointments in order to keep their condition in check.  For more information about glaucoma or to find out if you are at risk of getting glaucoma, please call Eyecare MPLS in Minneapolis for a consultation.
